There are total seven PCI bus on each virtual server. When cloning a vPar, the clone fails when non sharable devices are configured. To clone vPar, all devices assigned to existing vPar must be sharable.
When cloning a VM, warning message will displays when non sharable devices are configured, but the clone continues. Glance has the logical system report this report provides a list of virtual servers and displays information of them. Performance agent collects all metrics for virtual systems every 5 minutes. It is a client server software that is used to assign vWWN to virtual server virtual fibre channel adapters.
Every peripheral device typically has one or more DSFs. Permissions: Who can access the device? Major : Which kernel driver does the DSF use? Minor : Which device does the DSF use? And how? Due to this fact, is very common when managing large SAN deployments, where each disk has several Legacy Device Special Files associated according to the number of paths, that the Instance Number asigned to the Agile devices reach into the hundreds.
In strict sense, Logical Volume Manager and VxVM handle their respectively Physical Volumes or Disks based on metadata headers place on the actual LUNs, so ther is no technical requirement for the Device Special Files to share the device special file name across the different nodes.
The drawback of keeping different names across the nodes is the added complexity to device identification and day to day management. These best practices applies for new installations, were there is no need to keep Legacy Addressing in place.
The external storage was connect at the of the Operating System installation to add additional complexity, that is a common scenario and will allow the opportunity to show to change the instance numbers operates on more than a couple of devices. Check again the previous output for the system. The Legacy devices occupy instances 0 to 5 while the Agile occupy instances 6 to The objective is to remove the Legacy devices and renumber the agile devices beginning from instance 0.
Take reboot. Thanks SKR. I did it again Initially attached the storage LUN. First, executed 'insf -e' command. I have few question here: After detaching also why those devices coming under ioscan???? Why diskinfo shows some data for the detached devices???? Do i need to reboot the machine each and every time, when i detach the storage array???
And why i should manually remove the detached devices by executing 'rmsf' command?? Can't HPUX take care of these???? Do i need to update any patchs for this issue?? The HP-UX kernel can't remove this stale entry automatically when detaching a device.
During a re- boot, the kernel removes these stale entries, but this can also be done manually by issueing the 'rmsf' command, so a reboot should not be required in most cases.
