Pioneer Pacific College is shuttering three campuses and eliminating jobs in a move college officials say was necessary due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. In an official filing with the state , the college pointed to "statewide operational restrictions put in place by [Oregon] Governor [Kate] Brown.

All three locations are shuttering, in what the filing called a "permanent closure Beaverton and Springfield offers similar courses, leaning heavily on health-related fields such as medical assisting, nursing and health care administration. Both campuses also have an associate's degree for paralegals and a bachelor's degree in business management.

Those two sites are laying off a combined 90 employees. The closure of the college's Portland location includes staff at the Oregon Culinary Institute, as well as a number of administrative positions. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the application of management principles to the healthcare environment and be prepared for entry level administrative positions. The program emphasizes the development of clinical skills to train students for positions such as medical assistant, medical receptionist, health plan coordinator and medical insurance customer service representative.

Students learn not only in the classroom, but also in a laboratory which simulates the facilities, equipment, and records found in both the clinical and administrative areas of ambulatory care centers. The objective of this program is to prepare graduates for entry-level medical office administration positions. The Radiologic Technology program prepares students to practice as proficient, multi-skilled professionals in a culturally diverse health care setting; to demonstrate outcomes required by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ARRT and program guidelines; and to apply for and successfully complete ARRT certification examination and possess the qualifications of an entry-level radiographer.
